5 Quick Hacks for Tapping Into Passion

Just follow your passion! Telling somebody that is fine, but here’s how I like to say it. Do more of what makes you awesome! I have lots of friends and colleagues who have taken the leap into careers they love, including online businesses and marketing, and to me they are rock stars. It takes a super creative person who is ready to take a leap of faith to accomplish what they have and get to do what they love every single day – oh, and still be able to pay the bills.

Why does work have to be a drag? Do we really have to “grow up” and do the expected American routine – get up, go to work, come home, (maybe) go have fun, go to bed, and then do it all over again? Uh, no. We don’t. All the parts of that routine can be labelled fun if you’re tuned into what you love instead of just making money.

Don’t get me wrong, now. Making money is super important – and keeping some of that money even more so. (I’m thinking spa day!) So it’s time to find the balance of living your passion and using your marketing dollars the most efficient way possible. Most of us don’t even know what our passion is. I didn’t until I followed these steps to make my career fit my life instead of my life fitting my career:

  1. Make a list of what you do well – you’ve got skills, so listen when someone
compliments you, even if you can’t see it right away.
  2. Be a kid again – when you were little, you knew exactly what you loved to do and probably threw a tantrum until you could do it. Can you remember what that was before life got in the way?
  3. Get lost – what do you find yourself doing that makes you lose track of time? What are you sad to set aside because you’re so invested in the process?
  4. Get the word out – don’t settle for anonymity. Advertise smart and efficient! There are sites that can leverage your product for great prices and make sure audiences know you’re here. One of my favorites is AdPlotter.com. Check it out!
  5. Have fun – Yes, I said it. It’s not that simple to just have fun, but make sure you’re enjoying the process finding your passion. After all, that’s the point, right?

So what makes you awesome? Don’t just make a wish…make it happen!
